The First African Church Mission was founded in Nigeria, on 14th August 1891 by nine prominent Africans of blessed memory – known as the Immortal Nine. They resolved that a purely Native African Church be founded for the evangelization and amelioration of the African race, to be governed by Africans.
The First African Church Mission is comprised of the following organs that are responsible for the smooth running of the Church:
This is the Supreme organ of the Church, with the Primate as the chairman. The annual Conference is responsible for the final approval (ratification) of the appointments of the Primate and other Bishops of the Church. It also ratifies decisions of the General Council on matters bothering on amendments of the constitution, election of officers of the General Council etc.
This is the organ responsible for the day–to–day running of the Church. Such day–to–day operations are carried out by the Executive arm of this organ, who reports to the main body. The General Council is presided over by the Primate of the Church. It oversees the activities of all other organs of the Church and reports to the Annual Conference for ratification of its major decisions.
The Board is responsible for the proper and safe custody of all the properties of the Church. It represents the Mission on all legal matters. It is the only organ that can sue and be sued on behalf of the Church. This body is presided over by the Lay President, in his capacity as the Chairman. The board is the custodian of all properties of the Church.
NAFAC is responsible for giving financial direction to the General Council. Besides, it also handles such matters as awards, advisory role on restructuring of the Mission etc. The organ is chaired by the Lay President, in his capacity as the head of the finance department of the Church.
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
